Welcome to MelodiesOfLife! We are the baddest Abyssea linkshell in Asura around. While basic guidelines are generally placed by leaders and acknowledged by members, there are other matters that members should know. As members of a dedicated linkshell, every member has a right to know the complete system that they are working with.
This comprehensive guide is a manual to everything and anything; if you have questions, this all-knowing guide should provide you with answers. These rules serve as a contract that you agree to adhere to while carrying the linkshell name. Please look over them carefully as these rules are set up to establish equality and fairness among each member.

====== I. Gear ======
Members pick a first and second job that they want geared with the linkshell. As such, the shell will help you gear those jobs. This is almost exclusive to +2 items such as stones, coins, jewels, etc. While seals (+1 drops) may and most likely will be found during events, these will not be the primary focus with the limited time that we have during events and will be considered as nice additions that may be stumbled upon along the way. Regardless, +1 farming is encouraged outside of events, and there is a good chance that you can find someone to team up with on the shell for seals they need as well.
Additionally, every member has the right to pursue one Empyrean weapon of their choice with the shell. These pretty little things are one of the biggest reasons why we do what we do, and our ultimate goal is to see all of our members decked out in some of the best gear on the server.
What happens once I'm done gearing one of my #1 and #2 jobs?
NEW RULE: Once a #1 or #2 job is completely geared up with full AF3+2, a new #1 and #2 job can be designated with the approval of two shell officers. This cannot occur during an event; this can only occur specifically before or after event completion. With the constant coming of new job gearing assignments, members are encouraged to continue engaging in AF3 farming activities beyond event hours.
Example: Say your number one job is PUP and your second job is COR. Once you finish PUP, COR will then become your first job and you will be able to designate a new second job. Or, if you were to finish COR first, you will be able to designate a new second job.
What happens once I finish my Empyrean weapon?
For one, congratulations on achieving total badassery. While it's best to focus on the now rather than the future, the question of "what comes after I hit the jackpot" is a good question. Before moving on towards a direct answer, consider these things: while I say Empyrean weapon is our ultimate goal, it is the truth only in terms of an ambitious pursuit. As a linkshell, we establish connections with the people that surround us. We make friends and become familiar with the names that we see as we clock in to the FFXI world.
While there is no stopping someone from dropping the shell once their Empyrean weapon is completed, the true ultimate goal of the individual should be to see their fellow shell mates succeed in reaching the linkshell’s goal. This is the true responsibility of an individual on a linkshell that relies completely on her members’ dedication and contributions to obtain success. And who knows? Perhaps once everyone has gotten their claim to one Empyrean weapon, a second round on Empyrean weapons may be started.
============== II. Lotting System ==============
Lots revolve around what you have set up as your number one and two jobs. Job number one takes priority, and they will be asked to lot first on any sort of big drop. In the case of +2 farming, members will lot the first available drop and the winner of the lot will complete the set until they are completely done.
Since the event of Tuesday, June 6th a couple of new rules have been added to make things more fair. Please review them carefully.
1. I have a problem with Danton lotting those coins. I'ma go blah blah blah to Chanceikin now.
NEW RULE: No tells during lots. When lots are in order, the officers strictly navigate whether one should be lotting what it is that they are lotting. If you have a problem with lots, take it up only in party chat.
2. What happens when I don't get to finish all my +2 drops?
NEW RULE: If you do not finish a lot, you must post it under the forum stickied "Unfinished AF3," you must include the date of the event this occured, the drop that you are after, the number you currently possess, and the name of the mob fought that dropped said item. We will hold records that keep track of such as well, but it is the main responsibility of the linkshell members to keep track of their unfinished drops. These records are tracked and those that are caught cheating on their fellow peers will recieve punishment as severe as removal without warning. This new rule serves to better organize who was on what drop and who should then have priority. The earliest record will finish their drop first.
3. I need three drops off the Notorious Monster we're doing. I can totally lot like all of them, right?
NEW RULE: When you win a lot and are then in the middle of receiving that one specific +2 drop, you are not allowed to lot on any other +2 drop until you are completely finished with that set of drops.
Example: We're doing Sedna, you need Coin of Voyage and Card of Ardor; you win the lot for Card of Ardor. You must finish your Cards before getting to lot for Coins.
The only exception to this rule is if a member was on a +2 drop from a previous Notorious Monster where they won that lot and is completing their set on a new Notorious Monster, in which case they will be able to lot as if they were not on the drop they needed from a prior mob.
Example: We're doing Sedna, you need Coin of Voyage and Card of Ardor. You were on Cards while doing Alfard a week ago but you didn't get to finish. You will finish your Cards first then on Sedna, and you will still be able to lot on an available Coin for the highest lot.
========= III. Events =========
Events during the summer will run Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 4 PM EST. We gather together 30 minutes before this so we know who is coming and who should come what job.
Empyrean weapon farming takes up the prime attention and focus of our events. Other days, in order for us to keep our sanity, we try to switch it up a bit and do something different such as +2 farm and going for other drops. This serves as a nice getaway when repetitiously farming for empyrean weapons. We want this to be an enjoyable place where you can relax and have fun.
